2018 BASE Program Application (NOW CLOSED FOR 2018)

Application Instructions BASE Applications are reviewed and decisions are released on a rolling basis. We will evaluate your application on the overall strength of your academic record, extracurricular experiences, and career goals. Due to space limitations, early applications are strongly encouraged. All application materials become the property of the University of California, Berkeley and cannot be returned or forwarded elsewhere at your request. We strongly recommend that you retain copies of your application. Primary means of communication for the BASE Summer Program is through e-mail. Please complete the application in one sitting, as the application will not save your information as a draft. The application requires five file uploads: resume, transcript, proof of English proficiency (optional), and two essays. Please have *all* materials for the "Documents to Upload" section prepared and available on your computer *before* starting the application process. Please do not use the "Login" button at the top right or try to register as a member of the BASE group (that is for our admissions team).

If you are not sure if you will need a Visa, please contact the Berkeley International Office at 510-642-2818 for help determining the need for a UC Berkeley Summer Sessions Visa document. If admitted to BASE, you will be required to submit a completed Visa packet.

Additional instructions for the previous question. In resume format, list extracurricular activities and scholarships or awards received since you began college. Your resume can include information regarding your involvement in community service or volunteer work, membership in campus clubs and organizations, work experience, internships or military service. Emphasize duties, responsibilities, skills, job functions, abilities and accomplishments, and list dates of awards and affiliation with each organization.

Additional instructions for the previous question. Please upload an electronic copy of your unofficial or official college transcript in pdf, jpg, or png format. Word version of your transcript will not be accepted. Your name must appear on the unofficial transcript. If your transcript is in paper form only, we recommend that you use a scanner or camera. We strongly prefer to receive complete applications with all transcripts included. If you can only receive official transcripts from your school, please have it mailed to yourself and scan it after you receive it so you can upload it to the application. This sample transcript shows several acceptable transcripts.

Additional instructions for the previous question. If English is not the official language spoken in your country and your native language is not English, you must submit official evidence of English language proficiency (the TOEFL or IELTS examination score). International students currently attending 4-year universities in the US are exempt from this requirement.

Additional instructions for the previous question. The essay questions were created to provoke honest, thoughtful responses to help us get to know you. They are framed within the context of our distinct school culture's Four Defining Principles and give you the opportunity to provide unique information about yourself and your interests. These essays are the principal means we have of gaining insight about you and your reasons for applying to the BASE Program. In addition to content, essays are evaluated for critical thinking and writing ability, skill in organizing and presenting thoughts, and the relevance of your answers to the questions posed.
Each essay should be one page double-spaced. Two essays are required. Question 1 is mandatory. In addition to Question 1, please select either Question 2a or 2b as your second essay. The font should be no smaller than 10 point and all margins should be no smaller than 1ÔÇØ.
